Sony announces MMO convention SOE Live

Sony has announced the debut of a new convention devoted to Sony Online Entertainment MMOs, SOE Live. The convention will be located in Las Vegas, NV from the 18th through 21st October this year. The convention will take place at the Bally's Casino. The games that will be showcased at the convention include DC Universe Online, EverQuest, EverQuest II, Free Realms, Magic: The Gathering - Tactics, Star Wars: Clone Wars Adventures and Vanguard: Saga of Heroes. The convention will also debut PlanetSide 2.

As expected, Sony has announced that the original Everquest has officially been transitioned to the free-to-play model. "Through 18 successful expansions and countless other game updates, EverQuest has forged its place in history amongst the MMO and online game elite," celebrated Everquest director of development Dave Georgeson.

The original EverQuest, arguably the most influential MMO of all-time, will finally be going free-to-play. The announcement came in a public letter by producer Thom Terrazas. The venerable MMO more or less set the template for most modern MMOs, including World of Warcraft. The MMO will go free to play on the 16th March.
