Riot Games upcoming MMO, inspired from the likes of Warcraft III’s Defense of the Ancients mod, won’t be charging you a subscription when it launches.
The game will carry micro-transactions for those who want to buy Riot Points, but these only give you access to ”rare visual customization options,” and not ”a power advantage”.
League of Legends is an avatar-based real-time strategy title. ”Influence Points will be earned by simply playing the game, while Riot Points will be available for purchase with real money,” says the developer.
”Both currencies will be used to unlock additional content customization options, whereas only Influence Points will be used to unlock content such as Runes, which enhance the power of playable characters. Gamers who spend money in the game will not have a power advantage over other players; they will have access to rare visual customization options.”
”The system is designed to empower the player with a huge number of mechanical choices that deepen the level of the strategic thinking in the game.”
A League of Legends Collector’s Pack will be available containing two unique Champion skins, as well as some Champions, Runes and Riot Points; an additional unique skin is available through pre-order with selective outlets reveals Riot Games.
League of Legend is being exclusively released on PC this fall, see the trailer below for more.
