The new owners are investing in a ”more immersive experience” and delay its release until late next year. It wasn’t to do with the Atari, Hasbro legal fight over D&D.
Dungeons & Dragons: Neverwinter was announced by Atari even though they were locking horns with Hasbro over the licensing of the pen and paper RPG franchise. Their disagreements have been settled though so they didn’t become an issue.
However Atari sold Cryptic to Perfect World which certainly did throw a spanner in the works. Neverwinter lets players choose from five traditional D&D classes and then team up in a squad of five to go questing and pillaging dungeons for loot.
It supports all other party members being online players or AI-controlled NPCs. Dungeons & Dragons: Neverwinter releases on PC in late 2012. Are you excited to have Neverwinter making a comeback to Dungeons & Dragons fans?
