inExile Entertainment’s Brian Fargo has expressed a desire to bring back his legendary studio Black Isle Studios, a division of Interplay that developed such titles as the Fallout series, Planescape: Torment, Icewind Dale series, and published the Baldur’s Gate games (including the Dark Alliance titles)
Obsidian’s Chris Avellone wouldn’t mind reforming the studio either.
Fargo related in an interview, ”Obsidian are still working on projects, it’s not like they are going away. I have a lot of love for those guys. If (Wasteland 2) works, it will give me a platform for doing things again.” He then broadly hinted, ”If this continues to work, and certainly we’re off to a great start – this game has got to be great – if I deliver that, I think there would be a chance to build (Black Isle) up again. Nothing would make me happier.”
For his part, Avellone stated, “Brian gave me my first job in the industry, I loved being at Interplay while he was there, and I love Wasteland. If there was a way to work both with Obsidian and work with Brian and InXile, I would do it.”
Some of the projects that Black Isle Studios was forced to abandon included the original Fallout 3, Baldur’s Gate III: The Black Hound, and Baldur’s Gate: Dark Alliance 3.
