People Can Fly’s manic shooter Bulletstorm is widely considered to be a flop, selling less than 1M units across three platforms, but lead level designer Wojciech Madry claims it was ”the most successful new IP that year.”
Madry went on to state, “I think that any time you’ve done your best and read the critical excitement but it doesn’t translate into financial success, you feel that maybe there’s something you could have done differently.
“The problem is, like with the movie industry, the most money is made by (sequels). In the end we did everything we could to make a great game, a game that we would want to play, and there’s nothing we were ashamed of or wanted to change. We did everything we could.”
Madry didn’t note whether he meant 2011 or fiscal year 2012, or even if he meant just as a part of Electronic Arts’ stable of games (which is more likely).
Bulletstorm was released in February 2011 for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.
