Early next month is the annual Spike TV VGX awards where big name announcements take place. Crystal Dynamics’ senior art director Brian Horton remarked they’re ”well financed”.
The latest and highly critically acclaimed Tomb Raider was declared a ‘failure’ by Square Enix as sales didn’t meet expectations, but Crystal has all the funds they need.
”We’ve announced the sequel… I’m glad I can finally talk about!. The Tomb Raider sequel is the next chapter of her development… her life is changing. She can’t go back to the way she was,” Brian Horton said at an animation festival, and was then asked whether they had trouble securing money for the next Tomb Raider. “We don’t talk about our budgets… it’s a well financed game. We’re not spending any more on a sequel than on the original game.”
The more recent trademarking for Lara Croft: Reflections is likely the planned comic exploring the events between the reboot and Crystal Dynamics’ new Tomb Raider which continues her journey.
