There have been rumbles regarding the future of Crytek for quite some time, and this latest rumour won’t do anything to make them go away.
According to Kotaku’s sources Crytek UK’s staff are refusing to work until wages earned have been paid in full. This is not the first time rumours have surfaced regarding unpaid wages by the company.
Speaking anonymously insiders claim that staff at Crytek UK, currently working on Homefront: The Revolution (a surprising sequel to a terrible game nobody even remembers), have handed in grievance letters and gone home until they receive their money. It’s a very similar situation to the one in Crytek’s German offices outlined by more anonymous sources back in June.
One source estimates that around 100 members of staff have left. You would imagine that work on Homefront: The Revolution isn’t currently going full steam ahead if that’s true. Interestingly, the current gossip around the studio suggests that publisher Deep Silver may buy out Crytek and continue funding Homefront, which has already been shown in a fairly late stage of development at E3 2014, and is scheduled to appear at further game shows in the coming months. “They have invested a lot in Homefront and will want to protect their investment,” one source is quoted as saying.
It might not surprise you that neither Crytek nor Deep Silver want to comment on those rumours. Crytek has already flatly denied it’s close to bankruptcy. We’ll keep you updated with the latest developments.
