Later today the first ever Game Awards show will kick off in Las Vegas, celebrating the best games released over the last year and showcasing the next round of titles on the way in 2015.
In essence it’s a replacement for the Spike Video Game Awards (or VGX) that ended last year, though Spike TV doesn’t actually have anything to do with the new event.
Hosted by VGX’s Geoff Keighley (this time without a clearly disinterested Joel McHale), The Game Awards is only viewable over the internet. You can watch the two hour show right here, for example. Handy.
We already know that Metal Gear Online, the online component from Metal Gear Solid 5, will be on show. Other titles appearing include a new King’s Quest game, Bloodborne and No Man’s Sky will also be showcased (confirm the former for PC please Namco), but unfortunately Bethesda has confirmed they won’t be revealing anything new at the event. Other than that, we don’t know very much. It’s all very exciting.
Expect live musical performances, trailers for around a dozen games on the way next year, and of course 16 awards celebrating the best games of the last year. The nominees were released last month, and categories include Game of the Year, Developer of the Year, Best Independent Game and awards for various genres. There’s even a reward for Best Remaster, which amuses me no end for some reason.
