Assassin’s Creed: Unity is out in America already, and will be with us poor European peasants by the end of the week, but all does not sound rosy with Ubisoft’s latest historical stab-‘em-up.
Fans are reporting various technical and performance issues across all versions of the game, including a rather shoddy frame-rate.
Matt Gardner from Dealspwn first broke the news of the various issues in this post, where he detailed his own experiences of the PS4 version. Which were… not particularly positive. Here’s an example.
“Glitches abound, responsiveness is laughable, the context-sensitive detection areas around interactive objects like key mission items and reward chests are patchy and inconsistent. The crowds are impressive, the game does a fine job of creating a visually engaging representation of Paris, but the framerate is horrible. Lengthy jumps see Arno hang in the air, crippling slowdown is everywhere (especially if you get into cover), and although the free-running repertoire and animation sets have been massively expanded, its not uncommon to see the framerate juddering down below the 15 fps mark.”
Ouch. You might be thinking that PC players with mega PCs would be safe from all this nonsense. That might not be the case. People on this NeoGAF thread are apparently struggling to get above 30FPS with some pretty impressive rigs.
It should be noted at this point that without getting my hands on the game, we can’t personally confirm these rumours. As more and more people start posting their thought and reactions, I’m sure the picture will start to fill in. Right now it doesn’t look good, but to be fair several reviews have claimed that the poor framerate doesn’t spoil the game.
Assassin’s Creed: Unity drops on November 13 in Europe and 14 in the UK.
