Launching a new MMO expansion is rarely a smooth process at the best of times, but Blizzard has had to deal with a wave of DDoS attacks as they release World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor into the wild.
Posting on the game’s official forums, community manager Micah Whiple writes that the studio is doing its best to fix log-in issues and realm stability after “a distributed denial of service attack, that resulted in increased latency.”
Whiple admits that the game’s launch has been “less than ideal”, but is constantly updating the forum post with the latest information on steps Blizzard has taken to improve stability.
“Our top priority continues to be service issues impacting performance and long wait times on North American realms,” he writes. “We recently pushed a server change that caused disconnects, and as a result login services are heavily impacted as players attempt to (re)log in to the game.”
North American servers will go offline at 5AM PST today for maintenance, which is expected to last around four hours. European players have apparently not suffered from the problems nearly as much as their American cousins, but Blizzard promises “to address other stability and latency issues as well as make additional improvements in game performance.”
Some of the issues being addressed include:
Instance servers timing out, which may impact dungeon access
Continent server issues, which are resulting in Player Not Found and disconnection issues
Garrison server issues, which are resulting in phasing and performance issues
