Now this looks like a pretty hefty patch. The first major update for Diablo 3’s expansion Reaper of Souls is coming soon, and Blizzard has created a blog post giving us a glimpse at the new planned content.
Expect new ‘Season’ challenges, more challenging Nephalem Rifts, legendary gems, leaderboards and more.
Like the Ladder system in Diablo 2, Seasons will offer Diablo 3 players a chance to start afresh, leveling their characters and artisans up from the beginning. Doing so will earn them both Seasonal Legendary loot and the opportunity to take on special challenges for other rewards. If you’d rather not start the hacking and slashing all over again, don’t worry. After a while the new gear from an expired Season will pop up in the main game.
Greater Rifts expand the Nephalem Rifts already featured in the game, challenging players to kill a certain number of enemies before a timer runs down. As a reward for completing a Greater Rift, you’ll net new Legendary Gems - socket upgrades that “are infinitely upgradeable, and provide special Legendary powers when socketed into the appropriate gear slot.”
There’s a bunch more content to look forward too, including new leaderboards for both Seasonal challenges and the regular game, several big changes to combat and balance, and even a new area to explore while traveling through Nephalem Rifts, the charmingly named Cesspool.
Check out the blog page for more detailed information about the new update. There’s no date set for it yet, but it shouldn’t be too long before you can get your hands on Patch 2.1.0.
