The first expansion for Final Fantasy 14: A Realm Reborn will be called Heavensward, and it’s coming in Spring 2015 according to Square Enix.
The developer made the official announcement at the Final Fantasy Fan Festival over the weekend. Gaming website Gematsu has gathered the first nuggets of information on what players can expect.
Heavensward moves the action across to the city of Ishgard, where the thousand year ‘Dragonsong War’ rages between Ishgard and neighbouring Dravinia still rages. Ishgard is ruled by an archbishop and “four noble horses” (that should read houses, I assume. Actually I really hope it is ruled by horses, because that would be great) and is divided up to separate the privileged from the common riff-raff.
The expansion adds The Holy See of Ishgard, a fourth city-state, as well as new dungeons, new high-end raids, gear and recipes, new jobs and a new playable race. Gematsu reports the new race was “hinted to be the Vangiaa”, but Square Enix has actually announced that before - only to reveal it as an April Fools joke. Could they have changed their minds?
