Crown of the Ivory King, the third and last chapter of Dark Souls 2’s Lost Crown DLC trilogy, has been pushed back a week on all formats.
The winter-themed add-on was originally expected to launch on September 24, but it will now hit PC and consoles on September 30.
The first screens from Ivory King were released last week, and show off some rather attractive arctic landscapes. Packed with unpleasant things that want to kill you, obviously. This is Dark Souls after all. The wintery setting is designed to disorientate and confuse the player, and game director Yui Tanimura claimed at TGS2014 that this is the most difficult challenge DS2 players have ever faced.
The DLC will also add a new ‘Followers’ mechanic, where rather than snagging summon signs outside a boss room, players will accumulate a bunch of NPC followers over the course of the game. The more you manage to net (and how you do so isn’t fully clear yet), the easier the last boss fight will be, apparently.
Namco Bandai haven’t given a reason for the week’s delay.
