Game update eight for Titanfall was released yesterday, and it’s a really big one. It adds a brand new cooperative game mode called Frontier Defense, ranked play, ‘map stars’ and a bunch other fixes and additions.
Frontier Defence is a four-player spin on familiar wave defence modes, in which you’ll face off against a bunch of new enemies including the very nasty sounding ‘Nuclear Titans’. That can’t be good.
You can check out the new mode over on the Titanfall Twitch channel. Loadout crates are scattered about the map for you to change your gear on the fly, and there’s placeable turrets to help you hold back the enemy advance. In another nice touch, if you die you’ll ride a dropship back into the fray, firing out of the open crew bay as you descend.
Ranked play will only be playable by Gen 10 players in Beta form through October, but they can send invites to friends. After that it will open to all players level 32 or higher. New seasons will kick off on the first day of each month.
‘Map Stars’ are a new challenge for veteran players, requiring you to reach a specific score in each primary game mode on each map in order to earn them. Reach a total of 30 stars in a game mode and you’ll unlock a new insignia for your Titan.
Other additions include a new batch of Black Market items, TXAA and HBAO options for PC gamers with high-quality setups, improved load times and more. Check out the massive update post over on the game’s website for more.
