Publisher Daedalic Entertainment has announced that it will develop a video game version of The Pillars of the Earth based on the best-selling novel from author Ken Follett.
An adventure game set in a medieval English town, the project’s barely up and running yet. it’s scheduled for release on PC and consoles in 2017.
The Pillars of the Earth takes place in the fictitious town of Kingsbridge, where the construction of a cathedral causes tensions between nobility, clergy and commoners. The video game adaptation will arrive at the same time as Follett’s next book in the series.
“I’m thrilled that ‘The Pillars of the Earth’ – which is probably my most famous book – is going to be turned into a computer game by Daedalic, now part of the Lübbe organisation,” said the author. “I believe this will bring my work to the attention of a new generation of readers.”
“Together with Bastei Lübbe and Ken Follett we determined that the genre of adventure games is the best and most suitable way to adapt and express the substantial depth of such a historical novel,” added Daedalic CEO Carsten Fichtelmann. “Adventure games are interactive literature, and we at Daedalic dedicated ourselves to the perfection of this genre’s playing experience.”
Expect lashings of medieval power struggles, betrayal, corruption and murder, Not unlike a certain other adventure game that’s on the way this Winter.
