Hideo Kojima is set to show off a new and improved version of Metal Gear Online at The Game Awards next week, according to host Geoff Keighley.
Metal Gear first went online back in Metal Gear Solid 3 for the PS2, while multiplayer elements were also found in Metal Gear Solid 4. Knowing Kojima, he’s probably got something intriguing up his sleeve for next year’s Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain.
Previous efforts included relatively simple deathmatch, search and rescue and stealth modes for up to 16 players, but with Phantom Pain we might hopefully see something a bit more ambitious. The fact that Kojima is introducing it himself at such a big press event suggests there’s something interesting to see, not just your typical versus modes.
“Yes, we plan on creating Metal Gear Online,” Kojima told CVG earlier this year. “Multiplayer right now is being created at our LA studio as well as us. We’re working closely to create a vast multiplayer for all the fans.”
The Game Awards will take place next Friday, December 5. It will be streamed live through Steam, YouTube, Twitch and sevral other platforms.
