Ubisoft has apologised for the shaky launch of Assassin’s Creed: Unity, and is now offering a choice of several free games as compensation to those who purchased the game’s Season Pass.
If you didn’t buy the Pass, which has now been withdrawn from sale, you’ll still be able to claim Unity’s first piece of DLC content, titled Dead Kings, for free.
CEO of Ubisoft Montreal Yannis Mallat revealed the news in a post on the game’s website, apologising for the state of the game upon launch and also promising that the team is hard at work on fixing outstanding issues.
“Unfortunately, at launch,” Mallat writes, “the overall quality of the game was diminished by bugs and unexpected technical issues. I want to sincerely apologize on behalf of Ubisoft and the entire Assassin’s Creed team. These problems took away from your enjoyment of the game, and kept many of you from experiencing the game at its fullest potential.”
We’ve been working hard to fix the problems players are reporting, and the patches we have released so far have resolved many of them. Today, we’re releasing our third patch, which fixes a variety of specific issues related to the game’s stability and performance, matchmaking and connectivity, gameplay and menus.
You can read over Patch 3’s notes here. If you’re wondering about the free game offer, you can find an FAQ on how eligibility for that will work here. It’s still not entirely clear how you will get hold of your new game, though Ubisoft is “currently setting up the system to process this offer.” The titles you can choose from are; The Crew, Far Cry 4, Black Flag, Rayman Legends and Just Dance 2015.
Mallat says further patches for Unity are on the way. So how about it, are you satisfied by Ubisoft’s response?
