Almost forty minutes of Rainbow Six: Siege multiplayer gameplay has emerged online, showing the intricacies of the game’s hostage rescue mode.
If you had any questions about how Siege would look in action (and by that I mean real action, not those awful E3 trailers), it’s worth checking out.
For my money this is far closer to what I want from a Rainbow Six game than I thought it would be. A slower pace, small teams and tense, tactical shooting. More Counter-strike than Call of Duty. It really sells the concept.
Rescue teams start out by scouting and investigating the enemy-held building, using drones to try and see where soldiers are positioned, while hostage-takers board up vulnerable entry points and deploy various anti-personnel defences, including razor-wire traps and C4 detonation packs.
Then it’s go time, as the rescue team storms the building in an attempt to rescue the hostages and eliminate the terrorists. The previous E3 trailer was all bombastic explosions and action move shouting, but in practice it looks a far more measured experience. There’s still lots of gunfire and breaching explosions, but it almost looks like classic Rainbow Six, or the excellent SWAT 4.
Rainbow Six: Siege is set for release in 2015. It’s looking very interesting. What do you think?
