LucasArts is buddying up with GOG.com to release a bucketful of classic titles through the online retailer, including peerless space combat sims X-Wing and TIE Fighter.
This marks the first time these classic games have been released digitally. Both are excellent, but as far as I’m concerned TIE Fighter is the greatest Star Wars game ever made. So there.
GOG hasn’t yet officially announced the partnership with LucasArts, but an eagle-eyed member on the website’s forums uncovered some hidden website links revealing the secret. There’s a countdown clock for the arrival of a new publisher on the main page, which is set to go off in just over four hours, as of this post. Sorry to spoil that for you.
The aforementioned forum poster also hunted up some of the other classic LucasArts hits players will be able to get their hands on. It’s a bittersweet reminder of just how bloody great the publisher/developer was in its heyday. Before things went… pear-shaped. Check out this roll-call of brilliance:
