Perhaps with an eye on the ever-increasing popularity of e-sports, SEGA and Relic Entertainment have added a free Observer Mode to their World War Two RTS Company of Heroes 2, letting players watch live multiplayer matches.
In addition, they’ve added mod tools to the game, allowing owners of the game to create their own gameplay balances, win conditions and game rules.
Observer Mode allows for more than 500 concurrent viewers per live match, utilising an integrated Twitch player to allow players to both stream and connect to live multiplayer matches. It can even scale up to the tens of thousands for big events. There’s a variety of visual settings, including the ability to zoom right down to view the action with a cinematic camera mode.
Smart timing on Relic’s part; their standalone COH2 expansion Ardennes Assault is due out in just a few weeks, on November 18 to be exact.
