You hear that squealing sound? That’s the sound of millions of nerds crying out in excitement (me included) because we now have a solid, if not yet officially confirmed, release date for Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain - September 1 2015.
Konami had planned to reveal the date in an official announcement tomorrow but, as usual, the internet hive mind put paid to that.
A sharp-eyed NeoGAF forum user managed to catch a glimpse of some video interviews with series creator Hideo Koijima on IGN’s servers. The videos have since been taken down, but screengrabs of the release date itself are already winging their way around the web.
Metal Gear Solid 5 will be the first game in the stealth action series to debut on PC and consoles concurrently. It’s going to ship with both Kojima’s trademark lengthy story campaign (presumably with four hundred hours of cutscenes), and an intriguing base-building multiplayer mode.
Presumably the official release date announcement, scheduled to take place tomorrow at 2pm GMT, will be conducted by several visibly irritated Konami staffers.
