Something of a mixed bag of news for PC players regarding the highly anticipated Kojima creation Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain – the PC version’s release date has been pushed forward to match up with its console counterpart, but we’ll have to wait a little longer to sink out teeth into the multiplayer component.
The Phantom Pain will now launch on September 1 across all platforms, instead of the September 15 date that was initially proposed, but the PC version won’t get its online component until January 2016.
“We initially did not think it would be possible to get such an epic game out onto PC in time for launch alongside its console counterparts,” writes Konami Digital Entertainment B.V. president Tomotada Tashiro in a press release, “but all involved have worked diligently to meet the demands of our PC consumers. We feel confident that Steam users will be satisfied with the contents we will provide for the Steam version.”
Konami also revealed that pre-orders would include a free copy of the game’s sort-of prologue Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes, and a behind the scenes mini-documentary of the team at Kojima Productions at work on their magnum opus.
It’s taken a good long time, but Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain is almost upon us. Let’s hope it’s a fitting swansong as Hideo Kojima leaves the franchise.
