The Witcher videogames, based on the book series by Polish writer Andrzej Sapkowski, have made the property hot enough that The Sean Daniel Company is preparing to produce a full length Witcher film. It will be directed by Oscar nominated director Tomasz BagiĆski.
Most genre fans know The Sean Daniel Company for The Mummy franchise starring Brendan Fraser. The company is also releasing a new remake of Ben-Hur for 2016, as well as a new television series called The Expanse.
The film will be based on the stories The Witcher and Lesser Evil from The Last Wish, a collection of seven short stories based in the Geralt universe. The Witcher film is planned as the first of a series, and will be written by screenwriter Thania St. John, who has done scripts for various television series such as Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Chicago Fire and Grimm.
The Witcher is aiming for a 2017 release, and is currently in early pre-production, so no actors have been attached to the film yet. Stay tuned.
