S.T.A.L.K.E.R. spiritual successor Survarium has moved into open beta stage, which means that you can try out the post-apocalyptic shooter for free. Currently you can try your hands at two PvP modes, Team Deathmatch and Battery Retrieval.
The only servers are currently located in Europe, but developer Vostok Games says that anyone’s able to enter, providing they’re happy to put up with some potential lag.
Developed by a team of former GSC World members, Survarium will eventually contain an open world ‘FreePlay’ PVE mode in the style of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R: Shadow of Chernobyl solo campaign, in which you’ll be able to team up to take on hordes of mutant creatures and scrabble around for ration packs in the radioactive mud.
PVE mode is further explained here by Vostok.
“Freeplay - the player appears on one of the starting positions on big location inhabited by mutants and possessed by anomalies. This mode gives the player complete freedom of action - he will decide who to assist and who to attack; to be a loner or join the group of other players to survive longer.
The content of the map will be generated randomly and will depend on the actions of players, so each walkthrough will be unique and unpredictable. The goal in this mode is to survive and solve one of the mysteries in the level.”
Sounds a bit more interesting than Team Deathmatch, doesn’t it? Unfortunately it’s not quite ready yet. Vostok hope to release PVE mode, and a few other additional features, later this year. You can sign up for the current open beta on the game’s website.
