Stardock has released the latest beta update for its fantasy 4X Sorcerer King, adding over four hundred new quests and interactions, and a reworked Enchantment system.
There’s also a new Sovereign to play as, the Tinkerer. He’s slightly more dangerous than he sounds, thankfully, and takes full advantage of the new crafting options.
You can now enchant your custom-built magical items with “elemental attacks, mana drains, impenetrable defenses, and more”, and the Tinkerer packs a few special abilities that make building your own artefacts an even more powerful option. If that doesn’t float your boat, you can create your own Sovereign ruler from an extensive list of abilities, heroic minions, spells and so on.
Finally, the game’s received a bit of a makeover with a new graphical overhaul that includes “forests and chasms, much improved lighting, and tons of animations and effects”. One relatively minor but welcome change is the fact that quest and diplomacy screens now feature fully animated backgrounds – it’s little touches like this that should give Sorcerer King a welcome bit of character, whereas up until now it’s felt a little bit bland.
Quite a big patch then, and that’s only the major changes. Check out the patch notes for the full list of tweaks and additions.
