Good news, fans of first-person parkour games that make you feel slightly sick, there’s a new Mirror’s Edge game on the way early next year. It’s set to drop at around the same time as a new Plants vs Zombies title, while the company has also revealed that a new Need for Speed game will ship late 2015.
EA announced the news in the most boring way possible – as part of the company financials, heading into early 2016. Mirror’s Edge 2 will be handled by DICE who at that point will be fresh from duties on Star Wars Battlefront.
The first Mirror’s Edge was a cult hit, but it never did the kind of numbers that would make for a real, heavy-hitting triple-A franchise. Perhaps the second one can really kick the series off, because when it was teased last year (see above) people were pretty damned positive about it. It’s a great core concept, so I’m hoping DICE will run with it (slight pun intended).
Need for Speed has gone AWOL for a while now, aside from a mobile and tablet version expected out later this year, at around the same time as the new console/PC title. The last entry was Need for Speed Rivals, a Ghost Games production that was received reasonably well.
We’ve got no firm information about the next entry in the Need for Speed franchise, or the new Plants Vs Zombies game, save for EA describing the latter as a “bigger and bolder new console experience”. We’ll keep our eyes open for any further information.
