Expansions for CD Projekt RED’s RPG The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt have been announced through the listing on an ‘Expansion Pass’, which will include ”two epic adventures” with the first - Hearts of Stone - due out this October.
The second - Blood and Wine - is scheduled for Q1 2016. The Witcher 3 already includes 16 free DLCs, which range from cosmetic treats to additional quests to undertake in the huge open world.
New content, gear items and enemies to slay will be included in the expansions, and ”will feature characters both new and dearly missed – all crafted with maximum attention to detail and quality.” Hearts of Stone is said to be around 10 hours and takes place in ”No Man’s Land and the nooks and alleys of Oxenfurt,” where Geralt must survive a tangle of deceit.
Blood and Wine doubles to 20 hours, and will include a new region to play in: Toussaint. This land is ”untainted by war, where an atmosphere of carefree indulgence and knightly ritual masks an ancient, bloody secret.”
“With the development of Wild Hunt coming to an end, the team has embarked upon the creation of two new really big adventures set in The Witcher universe,” says Marcin Iwiński, co-founder of the studio.
“We remember the time when add-on disks truly expanded games by delivering meaningful content. As gamers, we’d like to bring that back. We’ve said in the past that if we ever decide to release paid content, it will be vast in size and represent real value for the money.”
“Both our expansions offer more hours of gameplay than quite a few standalone games out there. While we’re offering the Expansion Pass now, we want to make one thing clear: don’t buy it if you have any doubts. Wait for reviews or play The Witcher and see if you like it first. As always, it’s your call.”
Pricing for the ‘Expansion Pass’ hasn’t been disclosed as the official website is yet to allow purchase. It can be bought separately or bundled with the RPG, much like any other Season Pass these days. So far the studio has only disclosed 4 of the 16 freely given DLCs.
