Looks like this time it’s official. Blizzard Activision rolled out the red carpet for their new character-based first person shooter and came forth with a slew of details on what players will be getting out the game next year.
A glimpse of the details slipped online yesterday before being pulled completely, but now most of them are concrete. The game will be shipping sometime in Spring 2016 or “on or before June 21st” as the pulled pre-order ad stated. Not free-to-play, but a purchasable game, Overwatch will come in three versions, with the details of the Origin Edition extensively detailed in the video below.
The regular version of Overwatch will feature 21 selectable heroes and several environments to fight in. A pre-order also nets you the Noire Widowmaker skin at launch. That version will retail for $39.99. The Origin Edition featured in the video features extra skins for several heroes and tons of goodies for other Blizzard games, such as Mercy’s Wings in Diablo 3 and Tracer as a playable hero in Heroes of the Storm. The Origin Edition will run at $59.99. Finally, there’s a Collector’s Edition that includes a soundtrack, visual source book, and Soldier: 76 12.8-inch tall statue. That runs at $129.99 and must be pre-ordered at Gamestop, Amazon, or Best Buy.
In addition to all the pre-order news, Blizzard also announced Hollywood as a new playable map for the game and three new playable heroes: Genji, a robotic ninja and brother to Hanzo, Mei, a hero with ice powers who can freeze enemies and create walls of ice on the battlefield, and D.Va who can jump into a mech to take control of situations.
