Blizzard’s cross-IP MOBA Heroes of the Storm will get a big, new Diablo-flavoured chunk of content later this month, adding a playable version of the lovable Butcher demon, and a brand new themed battleground known as the ‘Battlefield of Eternity’.
Those of you who played the original Diablo will remember The Butcher as the cleaver-wielding nutcase who pursued you through the catacombs of Tristram, uttering the famously creepy line; ”Ah, fresh meat!”. Personally, I think he was just misunderstood.
The Butcher also popped up in Diablo 3, and it’s this updated version of the big guy who’ll be playable in Heroes of the Storm. Fan site Heroes Nexus has a nice rundown of his abilities and general playstyle; The Butcher’s a ‘Melee Assassin’, with a suite of powers that let him get up close and personal with his enemies, dishing out stuns, health-drains, and lots and lots of damage. His main gimmick is that he can collect ‘meat’ from fallen heroes and minions, which buffs his overall damage.
The Battlefield of Eternity map, meanwhile, is a two-lane level based on the final chapter of Diablo 3, which featured a full-on demon invasion of Heaven. In the centre of the map two deadly Immortal champions fight each other; if the teams intervene in this brawl, the winning Immortal will join its team to help push up the lanes.
The Eternal Conflict update will hit the test realm servers first on June 23, then release to all players on June 30.
