Back in July 2013, Hi-Rez stopped support of their free-to-play jetpack shooter Tribes Ascend, saying that there would be no major updates for the game for at least six months, and gave fans an SDK to do their own maintenance and map-making.
That six months stretched to two and a half years, so it was a little surprising that the developer announced a new update this past September. That update is set to be released to the public later today.
According to the patch notes, Hi-Rez will be upgrading the game today at 10:00 AM EST (5:00 PM CEST), and players should expect a downtime of about 6 hours. The developer also stated, ”Due to the dramatic changes to the underlying game, all in-game purchases have been reverted and all Tribes Gold and XP refunded to your account. If you have previously purchased the Ultimate Weapon Pack or Game of the Year it will be re-added to your account. If there is any Tribes Gold on your account you will be automatically gifted the Ultimate Weapon Pack.” The Ultimate Weapon Pack includes every gun in the game.
