I think it’s fair to say that former Castlevania producer Koji Igarashi will be pretty happy with his new project; his Kickstarter campaign for Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night is now the most successful video game campaign of all time.
It ends later today having scored, as of this post, a pretty mind-blowing $4.6 million from a goal of just $500,000. That knocks previous record holder Torment: Tides of Numenera neatly off the top spot; InXile’s upcoming RPG earned $4,188,927.
Backers have already unlocked a third playable character (identity unknown) and a prequel mini-game. The next target at $5 million is roguelike Dungeon Mode. Expect a final surge as the campaign timer runs down, and don’t be surprised to see the game hit that final milestone.
Whether that happens or not, though, this campaign is already a wild success, and one that proves just how financially valuable crowd-funding can be for the right project. Team IGA and Koji Igarashi plan to release Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night in March 2017
