Id Software’s upcoming DOOM reboot features what the developer calls “push-forward combat”. That is a slightly silly way of saying the game is really, really fast.
Publisher Bethesda has released a developer commentary video on the game’s multiplayer mode, showing off not just the breakneck pace, but also some of the special power-ups you’ll be able to grab.
One of which turns you into a rocket-pack wearing demon, who can zoom around firing shoulder cannons at people. “It’s kind of like our glorified quad damage,” explains exec producer Marty Stratton. “A very DOOM version of quad damage.”
Modes will include several Quake Live favourites including Domination, Clan Arena, and Freeze Tag.
Hard to tell just from a video, but DOOM’s hectic multiplayer looks like it could be pretty fun. The game comes out in Spring 2016.
