Deep Silver announced yesterday that development studio Yager, best known for the harrowing war thriller Spec Ops: The Line, will no longer be working on Dead Island 2.
“With Dead Island 2, Deep Silver has always been dedicated to delivering the sequel that Dead Island fans deserve,” wrote the publisher in an official statement. “After careful consideration, today we announce the decision to part ways with development partner YAGER.”
Given that Dead Island 2 was recently pushed back to 2016, and has pretty much gone missing in terms of marketing and promotion for the last few months, it’s perhaps not that surprising to see Yager jump ship. What the actual reasons for the team’s departure were, we may not find out for some time.
Deep Silver’s statement suggests that Dead Island 2 will continue on in some form or another, even if that means a complete reboot of the current concept. As for Yager, they’ll move on to spaceship combat game Dreadnought, under publisher Grey Box. We’ll keep an eye out for any further updates on this story.
