Snowbird games has announced the full release date for Caribbean!, its pirate-flavoured sandbox RPG based on the Mount and Blade: Warband engine. It’s due out on February 20.
Though the game’s moving out of Early Access, development on Caribbean! will continue, with several features planned for post launch, including naval sieges and a few other mechanics that didn’t make it in to the initial release.
A few weeks back Snowbird posted a list of those features, including multiplayer, female character models, full cities and more, implying that they had been cut out of the game entirely. Apparently that was a mix-up in communication.
To start, the list of features we showed earlier is mostly our work plan for the year ahead,” Snowbird explains. ”What we meant to communicate was that these parts of the game won’t be present in the game on release. The release version will be that solid foundation that we’ll use to expand our project further on.”
The first update is already being worked on, and will add those aforementioned naval sieges. All future updates will be released free of charge, though the developers point out that it’s hard to plan exactly when they’ll be ready to roll out new content.
”There are game elements that have horizon of development. There are game elements that we can work on for an unknown amount of time. And things that can take an unknown amount of time, can also require an unknown amount of budget. In this case it’s better to divide the development into stages, without trying to achieve everything at once.”
You can find Caribbean! over on Steam, available for £10.99.
