Valve has more than a little bit of egg on their face following the holiday patches they issued for Counter-Strike: Global Offensive. They unbalanced the game so much and caused so much outcry that they practically had to recall the whole patch. Today, they issued an open apology to the Counter-Strike community.
In the apology left on the official Counter-Strike website, the development team left their intended goals with the holiday patches, as well as addressing full awareness that the patch did not balance things the way it was supposed to. In consideration of that fact, the development team chose to roll all rifles and pistols back to their pre-patch values, not including the heavily nerfed R8 Revolver that caused so much distress. For now, the R8 will keep its lowered values.
The CS:GO team extended a promise to utilize a better means of communication and community feedback in future patches:
”We failed to anticipate the reaction of the community to changes in such heavy-use weapons,” the post states. ”And we clearly need to re-evaluate our process for making and communicating about changes in that space. We still think there’s value in trying to find a better balance for pistols and more skillful ways to use rifles, so we hope to tackle rifles and pistols again in the future.”
There has been positive public support from the community over this decision to roll back the changes made in the Winter Patch, no doubt thrilled to see the unbalancing to the game undone. Certainly it takes more than some swallowing of pride to admit when you’re totally wrong and see that not all change is good, but it seems the CS:GO is well on track to dissolving any ill-will caused by the failed patch.
