The next Star Wars: Battlefront, which leaks say is due November 17th, will be featuring 40-player brawls between the Rebel Alliance and the Galactic Empire.
Apparently ‘Battle of Jakku’ DLC will arrive later, which will be seen in the upcoming new Episode VII: The Force Awakens. However we’ll play this battle out ”30 years earlier” than in the film.
The report comes from the Associated Press, and has broken the embargo on information. Naughty that. A new trailer and a Millenium Falcon’s worth of information should be coming at us from 10.30am PDT / 1.30pm EDT / 6.30 pm GMT+1 today.
This Jakku DLC will be released two weeks before The Force Awakens debuts in cinemas, which is in mid-December. ”In the game, you actually get to play the Battle of Jakku. It’s the same place from the new movie but 30 years earlier,” executive producer Patrick Bach told AP.
Hoth, Tatooine and Sullust will be in the new Battlefront as returning locations. ”You can storm in as the Dark Lord himself,” said design director Niklas Fegraeus. ”You can wield a lightsaber. You can Force choke the rebel scum, which is fun. Basically, you are the boss of the battle. This means that you, as Vader, can lead your team to victory — if you play well.”
”We wanted it to feel authentic to this universe,” continued Bach. ”You can get into these vehicles, from speeder bikes to X-wings, TIE fighters, AT-STs, AT-ATs. There’s a wide range of vehicles that we wanted to realize. The difficulty with a game is that they need to be balanced with the troops on the ground.”
Star Wars: Battlefront releases on PC, Xbox One and PS4 November 17th.
