Publisher Bandai Namco has confirmed an April 2016 Western release date for the highly anticipated Dark Souls 3, around a month after Japanese players will get their hands on From Software’s dark fantasy RPG.
The firm announced the news at the Tokyo Game Show, though they didn’t supply an exact date. More worryingly for PC fans, the March release date in Japan is for consoles only - there’s no word on when the PC version will be ready, which suggests there may be a delay.
Dark Souls 2 came out on PC around a month after it hit consoles, so hopefully we’ll only have to wait a few weeks. The PC games market in Japan isn’t nearly as strong as for consoles, so it’s probably less of a priority for Bandai Namco than it is in the West.
Regardless, barring any major issues we should get our grubby mitts on Hidetaka Miyazaki’s latest before too long. Everything we’ve seen so far suggests that the third game in the Souls series is taking heavy inspiration mechanically from the majestic Bloodborne, which should result in a faster-paced, more aggressive style of combat. Can’t wait.
