Once again, Hideo Kojima’s status at Konami remains murky, as the publisher insists that Metal Gear Solid’s creator is still employed there, refuting a report by The New Yorker that Kojima had been officially laid off.
According to an interview with Konami by Japanese news site Tokyo Sports, Kojima is instead on a ”long vacation”, hinting that the party he and other co-workers held was a wrap party, not a farewell party.
The Konami rep went on to explain that after a massive project like Metal Gear Solid V; The Phantom Pain, Kojima was fatigued, needed a break, and that it’s normal for studio leads to take a hiatus from game development after big projects.
Konami did admit earlier in the year that it had dismantled Kojima Productions, however, so we’ll see if this vacation is a long one or a permanent one. Stay tuned.
