Star Citizen, the forthcoming space title from Wing Commander creator Chris Roberts and his studio Cloud Imperium Games, has just smashed $76 million in crowdfunding.
$76 million. That’s nuts.
With more than 850,000 backers, Star Citizen is easily the most crowdfunded project in history. That includes games, silly smartwatches and anything else.
For his part, Roberts has always said that all additional funds will be put into expanding the scope of Star Citizen and implementing new features into the game.
Combining space flight and first-person shooter sections where you can literally fly down to a planet and jaunt about, shooting various alien cultures in the face, calling Star Citizen ‘ambitious’, would be quite the understatement indeed.
In fact, the game client is said to be huge; approaching 100GB in size, too.
No release date has yet been announced for Star Citizen.
