Right now, the open beta for Ubisoft’s Rainbow Six Siege should be going on strong, but the beta is currently on hold thanks to server issues. The release date for the full game is due 1 December 2015, less than a week from now, but the publisher is confident that by that time, the servers will be ready.
The good news is that a patch was released late last night to mitigate the problem. The bad news is that the beta is still on hold. ”Game sessions are not starting properly and we’ve encountered server issues, leading to failed connections,” according to an Ubisoft FAQ. ”We’ve identified the root issue that was introduced after the Technical Test while fixing a separate aspect of the game.”
The FAQ then answered the most obvious question, ”“Is this going to be fixed for launch?”
Their answer was ”Yes,”, and explained, ”This Open Beta will ensure the cleanest launch possible. Keep in mind that this beta is intended for this exact reason: find problems and troubleshoot them to ensure the most stable launch possible. We are confident the game will work as intended since the known issue will be fixed soon. Therefore the launch will not be impacted by this issue.”
It’ll be interesting to see if Ubisoft will be able to keep to the 1 December 2015 launch. The real problem is that the open beta is getting shorter and shorter with each passing hour and costing the publisher in publicity and server load testing.
