After two games (I’m not counting Origins) of getting his well-toned backside kicked across Gotham, I don’t really blame Batman for wanting to call in some support. According to a trailer leaked today, several members of the Caped Crusader’s extended ’Batfamily’ will be joining him in Rocksteady’s trilogy closer, Batman: Arkham Knight.
Oracle is once again running the comms, providing background support along with Lucius Fox, Jim Gordon and good old Alfred Pennyworth. Jumping into the fray to bash some heads together, meanwhile, are old friends Robin, Nightwing and Catwoman. And they won’t just be popping up in cutscenes, either. Judging from the video team finishers are a big new part of the combat system, allowing Batman to deal with dangerous enemies by calling in his mates to help pummel them unconscious.
New bad guy Arkham Knight makes an appearance too, leading an army of (presumably) mercenaries, drones and tanks. I’m still not entirely sold on the idea of Gotham as an actual warzone, but I guess we’ll see how Rocksteady handles it. Blowing up hordes of robot tanks isn’t something I typically associate with Bats.
After several delays, Batman: Arkham Knight is set for release this June 23 worldwide.
