Danish developer Interceptor was on the cusp of creating the first Duke Nukem action RPG (no, I’m not sure that would have worked very well either), but legal issues between 3D Realms and Gearbox regarding the license put paid to that.
Nevertheless, the team has rebounded with respectable speed, and they’ve turned that scrapped project into a new game called Bombshell, set to release later this year. Here’s the first in-game trailer.
Guns, ultraviolence, weird demon/alien things. Yeah, that could easily be a Duke game, couldn’t it? Our heroine Shelly “Bombshell” Harrison’s tech-punk look and voice acting are a little on the… bland side, but otherwise the shooty-blasty action looks decent enough. And hey, there’s a bit where she pulls an alien’s head off with her bare hands, so she can’t be all bad.
Bombshell’s set for release sometime this year, but if you want to see more of the game in action it’ll be putting in an appearance at next month’s QuakeCon, July 23-26.
