Ori and the Blind Forest was a beautiful game with tight controls, challenging platforming, and a world that was tons of fun to explore. And very soon, an updated edition of the game should be making it even better.
The big new feature is a brand new playable area called the Black Root Burrows, which not only provides new challenges to overcome, but tells the backstory of Ori’s protective friend, Naru. The new area will open early in the game, but can only be fully explored once the player has gained some of Ori’s more advanced abilities.
And the list of abilities is expanding as well. A new dash ability gives Ori a boost of speed, and can eventually be upgraded to both do damage to enemies and for air-dashing. Another new ability takes the form of a grenade, which will no doubt be useful for both combat and puzzle solving.
Some people drawn in by the original game’s beautiful art and sound might have been pushed away by the sometimes brutal difficulty. A new easy mode will let players of all skill levels enjoy the story, while those who want an even greater challenge can dig into hard or “one-life” modes.
Ori and the Blind Forest Definitive Edition will be available March 10, and is an Xbox One and Windows 10 exclusive.
