Age of Wonders 3 was an ”impressive return” for the series when it launched back on 31st March, 2014, adding more creativity into the 4X strategy mold with strategic battles and the challenge of a new hostile world. The two expansion packs - Eternal Lords and Golden Realms – helped add to a game that wasn’t short of content.
That content is no doubt what helped move Age of Wonders 3 into sales of over 500k copies, with the expansion packs close to that number as well, as revealed by Triumph Studios.
“Age of Wonders 3 has quietly moved beyond 500k sales of the base game, with a similar amount in DLC packages. So it looks like we might have to cancel our plans to make the next title a free to play casual game.” said the spokesperson in a statement sent to GameWatcher.
While Triumph are currently gathering feedback from players for a new patch, the team are also working on a new game, which seems to be something entirely different from the Age of Wonders universe.
“We’re making great progress on our new game, we’ve been slowly merging multiple prototypes and tech improvements into a single build that’s shaping up to become something quite fantastic.” said the spokesperson for Triumph Studios.
Let’s hope we find out about its next game soon, but we’ll keep you posted if we hear anything about it.
