The Oculus Rift is finally available to preorder, as Oculus Studios has launched the store page to pick up the virtual reality headset for $599, and will have a May launch date. For UK residents, it’ll cost £499 plus £30 shipping.
”We’re excited to announce that Rift is now available to pre-order for $599 USD on Oculus.com and it will ship to 20 countries starting March 28,” stated the company on its official blog. ”People have been dreaming about immersive high-end VR for decades, and we’re thrilled to share Rift with you this March.”
If you’re a gamer who’d backed the Kickstarter at the $275 reward tier and up, you’ll get the Rift for free. Regardless of whether you backed the crowdfunding or not back in 2012, the company promises there is no limit to preorders. In addition, if it’s too expensive, or the customer’s PC isn’t able to handle it, Oculus won’t “lock” people into preorders either.
The Oculus Rift comes with the headset, the sensor, the Oculus Remote, cables, an Xbox One Controller, EVE: Valkyrie, and Lucky’s Tale. Customers can also download an app before commiting to preordering that will analyze their PC to make sure their rig can handle the device.
