Players who pro-ordered Bethesda’s new installment into the Dishonored series, Dishonored 2, got their hands on the game today. Things are not looking so good for the highly anticipated sequel, particularly on PC. Over a 1000 reviews and counting are flooding the steam store page and popular opinion is very divided.
Many negative reviews have begun to come in, so many that the game has the dreaded mixed rating on the store page. This is apparently due to the wide range of technical problems PC users are encountering. In fact, users are reporting on mass that the game is plagued with issues likely stemming from poor optimization.
Players are reporting huge frame rate drops across the board, with users that have high-end rigs experiencing multiple issues even when they turn the settings down to low and medium. While Bethesda have confirmed they are looking into the issues, some angry players have accused Bethesda of releasing an unfinished product and that the PC port is not ready for release.
This comes right after the fact that Bethesda will no longer be giving out pre-release review copies to reviewers, which stemmed a backlash of anti-consumerist chatter. On top of that, PC users were also on the receiving end of a bug ridden Skyrim remastered release in which the game had multiple game breaking issues.
Players of Dishonored 2 have reported that the game is unplayable at the current time due to the horrible controls, FPS drops, movement and action delays that have caused people to experience nausea and headaches. Many of the negative reviews don’t say that the mechanics of the game itself are bad, just the technical side which leaves hope yet for fans of the franchise. For the time being however, many PC players are recommending waiting for a patch or two before even trying. The mixed rating on Steam could also potentially hurt day one sales for the game in a major way.
