Yesterday, EA hosted an earnings conference call, releasing new information about a number of their upcoming games. The biggest announcements surround Star Wars Battlefront, with EA’s Chief Financial Officer, Blake Jorgensen, stating plans for multiple titles to release in the next few years.
“We do have a new IP coming next year, we haven’t yet announced it but it’s something that you will see (probably) coming up soon. Clearly that’s part of our investment for the franchise, as well as continuing to build the Battlefront franchise with Star Wars for fiscal 18 [2018] as well”.
This news arrived with EA’s Q4 FY16 press release which outlined that Star Wars Battlefront “sold more than 14 million units” in 2016.
“We will most likely have at least one Star Wars title a year, over the next three to four years. Next year we will see Star Wars Battlefront back with bigger and better worlds because we now have the new movies to work off of, not just the historical movies that we used before. We also are working on a Star Wars action game that part of the Motive team is working on, as well as the Visceral team and that’s most likely the following year, and as we’ve announced, we’re working with our partners Respawn to work on another Star Wars game”.
EA have also stated that they will try to layer in other titles into the Star Wars franchise as Disney brings out more movies. These titles will range across a number of genres, including shooters, action and strategy.
Unfortunately, the earnings call did not go into an awful lot of detail regarding the new Star Wars games. However, it sounds like EA will have a lot more to share with us, soon. Hopefully more will be revealed at their EA Play event in June.
