Head of Xbox, Phil Spencer, confirms some Microsoft games will launch on Steam. Spencer confirmed this information in an interview with Giant Bomb in a discussion about Microsoft’s push into the PC market.
”I look at Steam today, it’s on an incredible growth trajectory,” said Spencer. ”It’s a massive force in gaming; a positive force. I think it will be bigger a year from now than it is today. And five years later it will still be bigger again. I look at Valve as an important [independent software vendor] for us on Windows. They are a critical part of gaming’s success on Windows. I don’t think Valve’s hurt by not having our first-party games in their store right now. They’re doing incredible well. We will ship games on Steam again.”
The key thing to remember is that Microsoft are only planning on releasing some titles on Steam. We are sure there are still going to be exclusive titles on the Windows Store, most likely some of their biggest titles like Gears of War 4.
It’s no secret that a lot of people hate the Windows Store when it comes to purchasing games. With several needless restrictions including not supporting G-Sync/FreeSync and games having a 60FPS cap, it’s easy to see why PC players are put off by Microsoft’s efforts. Despite the company’s attempt to fix their Universal Windows Platform (UWP), it looks like they will finally give PC users exactly what they want: the option to buy Microsoft games directly from Steam.
