Indie developer Airam Hernandez is remastering the original Metal Gear Solid with the Unreal 4 engine, and while it may seem like Konami would slap him with a cease-and-desist letter, he’s also in communication with the publisher and its public relations.
Hernandez, who hails from the Canary Islands, is dubbing the game “Shadow Moses” at the moment, but it’s clearly Metal Gear. According to the game’s Facebook page, ”The first objective of this project was to recreate just the Shadow Moses environments and make a ‘museum game’ to those who wanted to explore the base with current technology. My surprise was that after a few weeks, everybody was talking about it! So many online magazines started writing articles and I received a lot of messages offering help and support. That’s the reason I decided to remake the entire game.”
He’s not in it totally alone, either. ”I also have to thank a person who is helping me a lot! His name is Dan Meadowcroft, and he is doing an amazing job with all the music aspects of the game and is also in charge with the conversations with Konami and all the public relations.” He also released a trailer for the remaster, as seen below.
Is it possible Konami is letting Hernandez do all the heavy lifting for a re-release of the first game? Solid Snake fans may cross their fingers and hope that the project comes to fruition.
