With Resident Evil straying further from its roots with recent iterations, Capcom are going all out to demonstrate how the upcoming Resident Evil 7 should finally stop attempting to meld survival horror and action together to appease both sides; while really just pushing both away in the process.
In the last 4 days, Capcom's official YouTube channel has uploaded 4 short videos showing off how we'll be doing minor things like saving our progress and equipping ourselves to fight through the madhouse.
While for others it might sound like a completely unimportant video series, for classic Resident Evil fans it puts minds at ease as know Capcom understands the subtle differences that made classic Resident Evil titles so eerie in the past.
Though the madhouse is a little more high-tech having a tape recorder over a typewriter, it's enough to let us know save points will feel like safe havens like the typewriter rooms of old. Only there's no classic save room music this time around if the video is giving us the full picture.
Storage boxes will be making a return too, and while usually linked to other boxes on easier difficulties, lets hope the upper tier playthroughs separate these again. The video specifically advises to 'save your ammo' suggesting we'll be tip-toeing our way around the threats whenever possible.
All-in-all, the video series is ticking all the right boxes at the minute giving off the vibe of treading carefully around the house to avoid losing a lot of progress. The omission of checkpoints and limited ammo should help Resident Evil 7 feel more like a classic entry in the series. At least, we can hope so.
Resident Evil 7 launches January 24, 2017.
